What's inside

  • The St James Journal

The St.James Journal is a collection of newsletters written by staff between 1961 and 1968. There are accounts of the history of the hospital, of treatments and changing approaches to mental health care in the 1960s, and even an essay imagining the future in 2000. A fascinating read for anyone interested in the local social history of mental health care.

  • Timeline

Image boards were created to illustrate major developments in mental health care in the last century. Each board represents a decade, and the 10 boards are a visual snapshot of the time. The original boards, of A1 size, formed the main part of the physical exhibition, and the images are shared here.

  • The Memories

This includes written memories by individuals, and poetry created from memories gathered. There are also photographic images from the drama project based on the memories, and the results of a survey which generated many responses about people’s experiences since the 1950s.

The Good Mental Health Cooperative

The Good Mental Health Cooperative supports people to access community based activities and workshops which help with inclusion, recovery and good mental health. The support is intended for people who have experienced serious life challenges, are socially isolated, anxious or lacking in confidence. This may include experience of mental ill-health, addictions, disability, bereavement, caring responsibilities for example. At the Good Mental Health Cooperative, we believe that connecting with others, and informal learning opportunities, are really important steps to good mental health, bringing a sense of inclusion and challenge, rather than feeling isolated and lacking in purpose. www.goodmentalhealth.org.uk
