Each week will comprise of asana (postures), pranayama (breathing practices) and relaxation.

You will be introduced to a different aspect of yoga each week to develop a deeper understanding of this ancient practice. The physical asana practice is gentle movement with the breath.

The course is suitable for all levels of ability, regardless of age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, race, religion or social background.

  • Week 1 – Awareness

    Aim: to become aware of the movement of the body with the breath

  • Week 2 – Introduction to Pranayama

    Aim: to understand the mechanics of breathing and how we can use the breath to energise and invigorate the body or calm and balance the nervous system

  • Week 3 – The Chakras

    Aim: to introduce the energy centres and their influence on the subtle body.

  • Week 4 – Mantra

    Aim: to give a brief introduction to the subtle effects of Mantra.

In the yoga traditions there are many different types of yogic practices. Most of us start by working with the body (Hatha Yoga).

During this course you will learn about different aspects of Hatha yoga to gain a deeper understanding of this ancient tradition and how it is as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago.

Because mind and body are intimately connected, yoga reduces mental tension, stimulates energy levels and balances the nervous system. Regular practice leads to an acceptance and a deeper connection to ourselves and the world around us.

At the end of the 4 week course you will have gained a deeper understanding of the benefits of yoga and an overall sense of wellness in mind, body and spirit.
